Julia Bardo shares video for cover of Fleetwood Mac's 'Only Over You'

Manchester-via-Italy singer, songwriter and guitarist Julia Bardo has shared the video for her recently released cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Only Over You, taken from her covers EP The Raw out now via Wichita Recordings.

Co-produced alongside The Orielles’ Henry Carlyle Wade at Stockport’s Eve Studios, The Raw EP follows the release of her Phase EP earlier this year. Through its 3 tracks, it marks a further experimentation in Julia Bardo’s wistful and mysterious sound, explored through a host of unexpected influential artists, including Fleetwood Mac, LCD Soundsystem and Silver Jews. Her take on Only Over You is tinged with nostalgia yet feels remarkably fresh in its hazy romantic sound and charming yet introspective vocal. Filmed by Julia herself at home, the red-tinged video is the perfect accompaniment to the song with its pared back yet compelling and raw yet warm visuals. On the track and EP, Julia says;

“It’s a transition between the EP ‘Phase’ and what the album is gonna’ be sonically - an evolutionary process from who I was. It’s a preparation for the listeners and their ears of what to expect from the album. It’s about experimenting with sounds and discovering my rawest side.”

“I chose to cover ‘Only Over You’ because it is one of my favourite songs and because I wanted to transform it and reconstruct it based on my musical taste and how I could hear the song in my head.”

The full tracklisting for The Raw EP is as follows

1.    Never As Tired As When I’m Waking Up (LCD Soundsystem)

2.    Only Over You (Fleetwood Mac)

3.    Random Rules (Silver Jews)

Julia Bardo’s musical journey began in Brescia in Northern Italy, where she sang and wrote lyrics for a local band between shifts at her father’s bar. A free spirit craving new inspiration, she relocated to Manchester and it was here she developed her striking style as a solo musician before also meeting and joining post-punk band Working Men’s Club. Never losing her strong desire to have full creative control over her music, she returned to being a solo artist and her first two EPs are just the start of what is yet to come, as she continues the evolution of her sound through every new release.

With her candidly open lyrics illustrating her world through journal-like observations and poetic visions, Julia Bardo is a special talent. Influenced by the music she grew up with (Italian musicians from the ‘60s such as Mina, Lucio Battisti, Patty Pravo and Nancy Sinatra) as well as her modern day heroines (Cate Le Bon, Angel Olsen, Aldous Harding, Lucy Dacus, Sharon Van Etten, Jessica Pratt and Weyes Blood), she is an authentic and curious alternative pop star in the making.

Performing at UK festivals such as Neighbourhood, Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape, alongside support dates with Blossoms and playing her own headline shows, Julia Bardo will be announcing further live dates soon.
