PSYKHI RELEASES LATEST SINGLE AND VIDEO RAT POISON

Ghanaian born, London based, Psykhi release his “Rat Poison” with an accompanying music video. “Rat Poison” marks the second track to be taken from his forthcoming debut EP - details to be announced soon.

Psykhi's storytelling in “Rat Poison” gives us a candid insight into a conversation between a murderer and a witness to the crime. The visuals, created in collaboration with Nigerian artist and filmmaker Peter Spanjer, give us a small insight into the mind of this arresting artist. Speaking on the track Psykhi says “It’s a horror story in a song. I wanted to paint an intense scene that is reminiscent of gothic literature; to create a sense of wonder and terror, mirrored by the chaos and harmony of the guitars.”

On the inspiration behind the visuals Peter Spanjer explains “With the Rat Poison video, I was really interested in the juxtaposition between the themes of the lyrics and the lightness of the sound which made me think about the role I wanted (red) light and darkness to play against each other. Within that, I started to discover and play with the shapes of Psykhi’s body, which wasn’t planned but became a focal point of the video and part of the story.”

“Rat Poison” arrives after the release of his debut single “White Picket Fence” which received praise from the likes of The Fader calling the grunge and 70s rock infused track “magnetic” whilst DIY expressed the track “possesses one of the most gloriously grungy riffs 2021’s seen so far”.

Throughout his life, Psykhi has used music as a form of escapism. His music fuses diverse influences, from African highlife to the sounds of Seattle grunge; listening to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Tame Impala, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nirvana and more. After spending his student loan on recording studios and a handful of demos, the 21-year-old found his way to Globe Town Records and “Psykhi” was born.
