Back in December, US based The Beat Generation brought out Rock Critic. Fusing together life experience with music, Rock Critic very much like we have been invited to view the world through the lens of Lawrence White. Back in the day was a photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine whilst playing in a few bands himself, so as you can imagine sees the industry from both perspectives. So when you listen to a song like Rock Critic it is quite fitting especially when you really focus on the lyrics.
As the lead vocalist on this track, I think Lawrence has a pretty prominent and powerful voice which has the ability to attract your attention especially due to the almost narrative style of the song. Then when you add harmonies of both the rhythm and saxophone to the mix, you have yourself one very cool song full of character that you can just switch on, listen and appreciate.
Since the release of Rock Critic, The Beat Generation have gone on to release a couple of other great tracks, but for anyone just discovering the music for the very first time, then tracks like this deserve some lovin too.
