Alfie Templeman is back and on top form with his exciting new release 'Everybody's Gonna Love Somebody'. The track premiered as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World on BBC Radio 1; marking his fourth consecutive Hottest Record! 'Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody’ is Alfie's first single of the new year, which follows up to riotous bop 'Forever Isn't Long Enough' back in September 2020. Templeman has had a hectic last year, since the release of his previous EP 'Happiness In Liquid Form', which sky rocketed the Bedfordshire-born teen to stardom. The success of recent releases saw Templeman feature in an amazing run of 2021 tips lists, including the BBC Sound Of 2021, Radio X Great X-Pectations, MTV, Amazon Music, Vevo, The Sun, Sunday Mirror, The Independent, The Telegraph, The Official Charts UK, Wonderland Magazine, Huffington Post and featuring on Top Of The Pops' New Years special too! Alfie's also been smashing the stats recently with an impressive 105K and rising Instagram following and 1M monthly Spotify listenership too!
The new single was impressively written, performed, and produced entirely by Templeman in his bedroom during lockdown! The eighteen year old songwriter is self-taught on an outstanding 10 different instruments, firmly proving his place as one of the UK's most exciting new talents. The new release takes heavy inspiration from classic 80's pop blended with more modern day indie, creating a really upbeat and vibrant track. I love the sultry sax lines that are intertwined into this single especially, showcasing Templeman's impressive talents and ear to detail.
It is definitely one of my favourite tracks from him so far and makes me so excited for a hopeful next release before the debut album drops! It really is the ray of sunshine, happiness and positivity we need more than ever during times like these. Talking about the single, the Bedfordshire teen explains:
“I first wrote and recorded ‘Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody’ back in 2017 when I was 14 years old and it’s been ingrained in my memory ever since. I’d always go back to it and try to re-record it but I could never quite get it right - then I went on a Tears For Fears binge and realised that it needed that ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ kind of production. I got back in the studio, changed a few lyrics and cut it in a couple of hours. It’s probably my favourite song on the new record.”
Alongside the release of the single, Alfie also dropped the official music video, directed by previous collaborator Thomas Davis. Talking about the music video Templeman says: “This is my most adventurous video yet. I was really keen on making a cinematic experience for ‘Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody’ and Thomas was perfect for bringing exactly that to life. Brian and Suzie were a pleasure to work with and it was nice to see them work things out in the end. I sure do adore those two lovebirds!”
Alongside the exciting new release and music video (if that wasn't enough) Alfie has also announced the details of his new mini-album 'Forever Isn’t Long Enough', which will be out on 7th May via Chess Club Records. I may have pre-ordered it like a minute later and I am for one am very excited for this one to drop and see Templeman continue his stride into becoming the UK's next hottest indie artist. If you are keeping your eyes on the one to watch, it certainly has to be Alfie Templeman.
