Catching Up with Sad Luv

Ahead of his show at The Hoxton Underbelly in London to compete against 100 artists to win a spot at the Isle of Wight, we caught up with Sad Luv to know it all about is story, his new track "Lost Without You" and his future projects.

What inspired you to do music?

I think from a very young age I was destined to make music. I remember being as young as 13 years old and skipping school lessons to go hide out in the music rooms at school just to play a Guitar. I have never really been interested in doing anything besides music. I live for it although it’s a love hate relationship. It’s amazing for expressing your true feelings and emotions. People inspire me everyday to write music. I want to create a sound and a meaning that can help others get through dark times.

How did you come up with the name Sad Luv?

Sad Luv is about losing someone close to you. I lost my brother 3 years ago no he was 21 and died from cancer. I write a lot about the effects that had on me and how my relationships have been effected and how something so tragic can change your life.

You've been writing music for so long. What  keeps you so motivated and focused?

My brother passing keeps me extremely motivated. I promised him on his death bed that I would make this happen and do whatever it takes. I work an average of 50 hours a week on music as well as working full time. I think if you need to find motivation it’s not always right though ? If you get me ? This doesn’t feel like a job. I love ever bit of it. It has its moments but it’s an escape from the real world which as a cruel and dark place.

Being an upcoming artist, what do you find difficult to do?

Getting people to listen. That’s for sure the hardest thing. I feel I have so many songs with so much meaning that are produced and written well. When people find me they love it! But it’s getting yourself heard. That’s the hardest part right now. I don’t have any major labels. I want to keep this as self run as possible. All I have is a manager and my publishers Sony BMG. But my publishers get me to write music for other artist and syncing opportunities. I don’t release music with them. I self release with AWAL.

Your latest single is "Lost Without You", what is the song about?

"Lost Without You" is a love song written about when I met my girlfriend. It’s story about how I felt very lost in myself and how I never really felt good enough for anyone.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i14ENylpqNM

What are you working on at the moment? What's next for sad Luv?

At the moment man things are crazy! I have 28 songs coming out this year in total. I have 12 of my own singles so one a month with videos and remixes etc. I’m heading to The Netherlands to play some shows. I think as this is the first year with this new project the focus is to build numbers and get my music heard. I’ll head to LA / New York for some collaboration work with bigger artist to help boost my profile getting new fans. I guess the same way everyone does these days. Colalbs are so so good for exposure. The main thing I wanna do is enjoy the journey and be happy with where I’m at.

You've been selected to play at the quarter finals of the Isle of Wight. How does it feel?

Pretty rad, I mean I never really get my hopes up for this kinda thing because I'v been let down so many times. I’ll just roll with it and see what happens.
