Having recently performed dates in Monaco and Marbella, Scarborough became the latest destination for Christina Aguilera's current European run. Following in the footsteps of both Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue, the pop icon kicked off her UK tour on the Yorkshire coast. This show was one of three concerts that Xtina will perform on this leg of her tour. With dates in both Liverpool and London to follow. As one would expect, the high-profile artist’s fans were out in force to witness this rare appearance in the North of England.
A sea of cell phones illuminated the venue as the artist took to the stage. Flanked by a troupe of dancers, Aguilera got the show underway with a bang – and we aren't just talking about the CO2 cannons which fired frequently from the front of the stage. Christina had the Scarborough audience in the palm of her hand from the off. Anthems such as “Dirrty” and “Genie in the Bottle” both featured at the top of the set. Dressed in a metallic corset whilst donning reflective shades, the artist showcased her phenomenal four-octave vocal range
during an astounding rendition of “What A Girl Wants”.
Throughout the evening, the US-based artist made frequent costume changes. During these off-stage interludes, Aguilera allowed her incredible dancers to take their moment in the spotlight. The dance choreography throughout the show was second to none.
With the artist's latest offering, she pays homage to her Latin roots and heritage. Christina's new album is titled ‘Aguilera’ and is the legendary singer's second long player to be performed entirely in Spanish. Mid-set, a run of back-to-back tracks from the record featured including “Santo”, “Pa’ Mis Muchachas”, and “Sueltame”. Whether Christina was performing in Spanish or English, her vocal performance was out of this world all night long.
With confetti canons firing on all cylinders, a euphoric airing of “Feel This Moment” was one of many highlights of the show. But it was fan favourites such as "Moves Like Jagger", “Candyman”, “Lady Marmalade”, and “Say Something” which stole the show. The latter featured a spellbinding duet with vocalist Nelson. Christina Aguilera is often regarded as the voice of a generation, and based upon her performance at the Open Air Theatre in Scarborough there is no denying it. Liverpool and London are in for a treat.
More top-class artists are performing at the venue over the coming weeks, including concerts from Lewis Capaldi and George Ezra. For tickets and further details, please visit https://scarboroughopenairtheatre.com/.
