Daniel Donskoy releases 'Robbed Me'

This month we caught up with singer and actor Daniel Donskoy to chat about his latest release ‘Robbed Me’ here’s what Daniel had to say about the release earlier this week.

How have you found the response to the latest single so far? Is the response to your music starting to grow in the UK like it has in Germany?

The response has been great. After checking the insights of the Music streaming services it’s incredible to see that it is being streamed in so many different countries. Top city this month has actually been London and that’s a great feeling. I’m hoping to be back in London soon and keep writing and creating there.

What is the story/inspiration behind the new track?

I write a lot about the quest for personal freedom. This freedom comes in many ways and is based on several pillars. “Robbed me” is about emotional freedom. What happens after someone who’s been your entire emotional world, someone you’ve projected everything upon, disappears from your life. Are you then still able to feel free or are you then held back by the feeling of being bereft of strength, because that person used to be the one who gave it to you. A bit philosophical I know - but something I’ve been thinking about a lot.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I listen to a huge variety of artists. I’d still say Frank Ocean & Mac Miller never seize to inspire me in my creative process. But just as much as David Bowie always reminds me about the essence of individualism and Michael Jackson about technique and harmonies. It’s hard to put a finger on it.

Do you find it difficult balancing making music as well as acting or do you enjoy the different artistic processes across both fields?

It can become quite challenging in terms of time management but this year I've been fortunate to have had enough time for both. Of course the creative process is fundamentally different. When I act it’s not about me, it should be solely about the character. I can give that character life by tapping into my experience and emotions but it’s about creating a new persona. Whereas the musical creating is 100 % personal and can therefore give the illusion that it’s closer to your heart. I love both worlds and I don’t want to miss one.

What challenges have you faced this year in regards to lockdown and the live music industry? Has lockdown encouraged you to write a lot?

This year has been a huge shakeup, of course. My entire plan has shifted like it has for the majority of artist. Films have been moved, we had to postpone the tour and release plans. I was gutted, but on the plus side, I’ve suddenly had time on my hands and most definitely used it for writing and perfecting the songs I’m currently releasing.

What has been your career highlight so far?

In terms of music it was my first tour last year. Things that happen for the first time have that special amount of excitement to them. But that’s true for everything that happens for the first time. The first time I heard my song on the radio. The first time you hear a final mix of a produced track. Every single one of these events is a career highlight in itself.

What are your plans for the new year?

I’m about to release four more tracks in the first six months of 2021, hopefully be able to announce tour dates very soon and am about to start filming some very exciting projects. I will also use 2021 to continue working on my debut album. But I’m also going to keep an open mind as I’ve learnt this year that plans are meant to be changed :)
