From all the new music I have been immersing myself in lately, I have to say if there is one song which has really captured my total respect and admiration it would have to be Drew Schueler and his latest song, Whiskey Sour.
Joining forces with an equally talented artist, Herene, this song is honestly such a breathtaking and beautiful song. For anyone who is into the likes of Lauv, then this collaboration sees both Drew and Herene creating their own vibe to produce something which is so abundantly wholesome for any music fan.
Lyrically I love the rawness of lines such as ‘How'd we turn a good thing bad, Wishing we could take it back to sweet, Talking for hours, Now even the whiskey's sour’ and ‘are you someone I knew once, but I can’t just forget’ because it approaches the topic of love and heart break and speaks from a place of truth.
All those feelings we experience when going through a breakup, still thinking about that special someone but also being real about any pain that existed there too. It’s from that candid and truthful place that makes listening to a song like Whiskey Sour really cathartic while also providing a safe space to allow ourselves not hide from those feelings of vulnerability.
The other thing which makes the song so strong is the brilliant dialogue Herene and Drew, because individually they bring their own A game and versatility to the song, and joined together radiate strength.
This song has only been out for a few weeks, but I can seriously see this being up there as one of the stand out songs of this year. It has made me so excited to want to delve more into the work of both Herene and Drew Schueler, and let’s hope this paves the way for many incredible collaboration to come.
Available on all major platforms, Whiskey Sour is ready to listen to now.
