If you are looking for a little bit of much needed escapism in your life, or the type of music which is good for the soul and mind, then Hot Spoon, Cold Mango’s latest record, Paws On Ears will be the perfect recommendation.
Released on 15th November 2023, this album consists of an impressive 18 track line up, and if you are looking for the next level in instrumental and ambient music then Paws On Ears will fit quite nicely in your collection.
With that being said, its only right I delve right into the album my self. We begin with the opening track A Beckoning Plea of A Call For Bears, and what I love about this track, other than it setting the tone perfectly, is that it is a brilliant opportunity to enjoy such luscious sounds, just like you are within the heart of nature yourself. Even better, as someone who does love the sound of the piano and keyboard, having played myself back in the day, this track is an excellent opportunity to enjoy one of the best instruments in existence. Hot Spoon, Cold Mango is quite the pianist.
We then move on to Amongst The Root Of The Trees, which has an enchanting radiance to it, especially with the playful touches of those chimes and strings adding some extra texture to the song before the keys bring everything together nicely.
The third track A Cows Stands Strong Protecting Their Llama just flows so nicely, but what I like about it most is that at the very beginning it is almost as though I can hear the sounds of waves. Given the intricate nature of this track. I admire Hot Spoon, Cold Mango for the attention to detail to produce a perfectly constructed track.
With their being 18 tracks on the album, as much as I would love to go through them one by one with you, I think to give you a flavour to tease your intrigue its best I pick out just few extra tracks which have caught my eye and captured the imagination within my mind.
Track number 7 entitled Fly With Me My Lover Fennec, is one of my favourites because it is just is so calming and is oozing with such freshness. If I had to describe it, in layman’s terms I would say it is just one of the many tracks which add a whole lot of colour and brightness to the album, something similar to golden yellows. The same can be said of the track I Am Not Afraid Of You Penguins Anymore. With the addition of the saxophone is just paints a picture inside my mind of the sun beaming down.
She Said It Was A Duck is also worth checking out too, because we can see Hoy Spoon, Cold Mango just being allowing the creativity to flow from him and into the mind of the listener. If I went back to my talk of colours and texture, this song I would class as being one of the tracks on the album which contained the whole spectrum of the colours, similar to looking up and noticing a rainbow.
There is just one final track I will mention, particularly as I consider it one of the wild card choices, which for me I would probably pick out Withdrawing of Claws. Compared to the rest of the tracks, there is something in the style and execution which makes it feel different. The vibe of this track just puts your mind at ease and is a very soothing experience all round.
I think one of the beautiful qualities for an album such contains no lyrics or vocals is that it encourages you to see and approach music differently, and I guess depending on the type of person you are, everything is open to interpretation.
Until this album I was not familiar with Hot Spoon, Cold Mango, but I am grateful now I had the pleasure of being introduced to a world which was just as imaginative as the the artist themselves. Available on all major platform, take that first step and listen to the latest album, Paws On Ears today!
