Following a string of great releases over the past few years, Danish artist Marissa M has released her debut album I.M.M which was released on 20th October 2023. With music being a true passion for Marissa this record is a perfect for seeing the artist in her element as she gives us music straight from the heart.
The album begins with opening track Happy In L.A which is such a sweet and gentle song which takes the listener to a place of positive vibes filled with such happy memories. This song may focus on L.A, but I am sure this is a song which anyone can resonate with as it helps to reminisce about moments or places in time which we felt so precious and joyous.
In my opinion Happy in L.A helps to set the bar high for the rest of the album. From this song we then move onto a remastered version of Empty Words which is such a truthful song, made even more powerful by Marissa’s lyrics.
There are 11 songs on offer on this album and there is such nice variety to indulge in as you become better acquainted with Marissa. There are a couple of songs on the record which I also feel that new fans would get a lot of solace from such as Hold On and if you listening closely to words such as ‘Hold on you gotta be strong, hold on I got to be so strong’ those are the types of proclamations which help to motivate us during those tough times we face day by day.
A similar thing can be said about Pearl Kind of Girl, which is both light hearted, fun and catchy to hum along to.
The rest of the songs on I.M.M speak for themselves, and when you combined them to the rest of the songs, you can see how everything just flows beautifully. What really makes this album worth the listen is the opportunity to see Marissa’s style as a lyricist as we are able to get a flavor of her potential. This is not the type of record to be rushed, its one to requires us as listeners to be gentle, only then can anyone truly appreciate its full beauty.
