LaMee Release Latest EP ‘Bleed’

Inspired by their love of Japan and Video Games, dark wave duo LaMee have recently released their EP, Bleed which came out on 30th October 2023. With it being almost a month old (wahoo, confetti at the ready), I had the pleasure of taking a much closer look at this latest creation.

Consisting of three tracks, what is important to note, for any first time listener is that you should see Bleed as an invite to step into not just the world, but mind of LaMee, because there is more than meets the eye when it comes to this pair. The mystery and intrigue which manifests itself through this EP is also part of its character and charm.

We begin with opening track Kuroi Kontrol and its really exhilarating to listen to a song where instantaneously you feel that rush of energy flowing straight out of the core of your body. Dark Wave is something I am still getting familiar with in general, but I love LaMee’s style here because its almost like we have a cross over of other genres such as industrial or maybe cyberpunk.

I also appreciate the fact that unlike other artists in this genre, that thought has been given to the lyrics too. A good rhythm is one thing, but add in some brilliant song writing which act as the doorway to your inner thoughts, then that makes a song even alluring especially with those lead female vocals navigating us through Kuroi Kontrol nicely.

We then move onto Escape From () and I love the whole playful seduction of the song lyrically which you hear lyrically at the very beginning, especially the lines ‘Your intentions and my obsessions, they work so well, if you want to play’. These are much more than lyrics to me, but powerful statements with a key purpose to delve as deep into one’s mind depending on how far you dare go.

When you experience the sonic and intricate vibrations around the 1 minute 9 second mark, which may only last a matter of seconds, I think this is such a golden and precious moment of the track because to me it felt like LaMee are intensifying the track even more, which is a nice contrast to the other elements present in the rest of the song as well. Escape From () has that exciting thirst to live on the side of danger, which I guess comes from many a situation especially when in the midst of getting close to enemy lines within a video game.

The EP ends with the final headline track, Bleed, and the intrigue and stimulation within your mind only grows bigger and bigger. Although I love my lyrics, for me what heightens the whole experience for me is the instrumental side to this track, because you can really tell LaMee just push their inner creative from the the core but also holding back just the right amount of mystery to thirst for more.

Having listened to all three tracks, and seeing the EP as a whole, LaMee have certainly succeeded in opening the mind and intrigue of this relatively new Dark Wave fan. They have a unique style unlike anything else I have ever listened to, and it’s that which I feel sets them apart from other artists out there. I always love discovering artists whose music can be just as much of an captivating experience as much as it is insightful, and that is exactly how LaMee have made me feel.

Take that first step to opening your mind, and listen to the latest EP, Bleed today.
