Laundry Boys Release Debut EP 'Yatzy Music Volume 1'

Manhattan based duo Laundry Boys have had such a special few days as after a lot of hard work behind the scenes, the band were finally able to release their debut EP, Yatzy Music Volume 1 which was released on the 16th November 2023. Having formed in 2020, I would say that from the outset that this EP is a testament to band’s incredible journey up to now and is the perfect representation of how the duo have really blossomed together over the past 3 years.

The EP begins with the wholesome opening track Drunk On Love which is just such an endearing track. We have all heard the phrase drunk on love, but I think Laundry Boys are helping us to really visualise what that exactly looks and feels like through their stunning lyrics which just fill you with such precious warmth.

When I hear lines such as ‘…we can go wherever you like, we can go far, in the front seat like it’s show time, arms around my neck like a bow tie, and we are drunk on love…’ it makes me want to stay in that atmosphere because Laundry Boys are presenting the concept of love to us in it’s purest form.

From this song, we then move onto the second song on the EP, American Confidence which is so stylish. The whole energy of the song is radiant and I really enjoy how the synth and other elements of the songs composition form the cornerstone of this beautifully written track. Being humble is not a quality you always see, so it really feels exciting being able to see Laundry channelling that through the lyrics of this song.

Next up we have Praise You which also happens to be one of my favorites because not only are the Laundry Boys sustaining that positive energy which we hear on the first two track, but I love how with the chorus they add a extra layer and switched up the beat, which being absolutely truthful made my eyes light up. The lines ‘I Praise you, I praise you’ are such a good way of steadying your heart for an attitude of gratitude.

3 songs in, and already I have convinced myself that I don’t just have a huge respect for Laundry Boys but they are also going right up there as one of my favorite bands. But wait there is still a couple of songs left on the EP to tell you about. Yesterday’s Weather is so engaging, and creates the opportunity to reflect and navigate through your thoughts, making it such a mind purifying experience as you give the song your full attention.

The EP ends with the closing track Giving Up On Love, which begins with a gentle beat which sets the tone. Where earlier on in the EP we were explore pure love with the Laundry Boys, this track turns that feeling on its a head, I guess by exploring what it means to feel when two hearts which once were united, start to recognise they have started to drift apart. We have all been their, and I think what works for Giving Up On Love is that just helps you what that might entail if you were on the outside looking in.

As music fans we want to be able to have that feeling of picking up an album or an EP that we never want to put back down again, and from having the pleasure of listening to Yatzy Music Volume 1 that is exactly how I feel. Laundry Boys have so much to give, and I think this EP sees the band really setting the bar high and paving the way for many good times to come.
