With 2024 fast approaching, British queer punk band Resting B!tch Face have already got the wheels in motion to make it a year to remember. With the band having been working on their debut EP, Sounds Gay, I’m In, which is due for release in March 2024, in order to get music fans in the mood, they will first be teasing a select few tracks from the EP which will be released from January onwards.
Thankfully though, as a treat to all our DARKUS readers, we do not have to wait that long, as we give you an early insight on just some of the tracks you can expect to hear. Consider it an early Xmas present.
One of the songs to keep your eyes peeled for is Straight White Man, which is also the opening track from the EP itself. Other than being extremely catchy with a punchy beat, lyrically the song has plenty of attitude, unapologetic and outrageously outspoken - and you know what, I absolutely love it. This the very epitome of song which just speaks directly from the core of the mind, not pussy footing around and just has that observant kind of confidence. There is so much sass to this track as well, where you will be thinking to yourself ‘oh my did I just hear what I thought I heard’, but deep down you will be also raising a smirk and cheering Resting B!tch Face on.
I will give you an example, ‘your not a nice guy if you have to point it out, straight white men they’ve got a fucking problem, honestly I think we could do without’. For some hearing this song, hearing some of these lines may make you feel uncomfortable, but on the flip side of things, it helps you to just consider an alternative view that makes you be a bit more mindful of what’s going on around you, especially if you or someone know identifies as LGBTQ+ and were made to feel uneasy. I feel this song gives the culprits a touch of their own medicine.
Another track which will soong be released as a single is Good Girl. Very much lyric focused, this is again a very truthful song, layered in sheer honesty, and centres around this idea of feeling like you are being moulded into acting a certain way to meet a set standard. Anyone who knows what it is like to experience that feeling where they are suffocated, with their wings clipped unable to be there true selves, will be able to resonate with this track.
There is something very freeing about Good Girl, where the lyrics and the way it makes the listener feel is as liberating and empowering as the overall song itself.
One final track which will be released ahead of the EP is Catuerize the Critics which from the outset, Resting B!tch Face do not hold back in just saying it how it is. The way that the song begins with the line’s ‘I’ve got something to say, and your all going to fucking listen’, I have the utmost appreciation for, because it has a flair of boldness to it, where you are able to reclaim your voice and stand your ground especially when having to deal with all those critics and haters who have nothing better to do than cast their unwanted opinions over you. This song is brimming with such courageous songwriting, with one of my favourite lines being ‘did you ever stop to think, that I don’t live for you’.
If these are going to be the first three songs to be released from Sounds Gay, I’m In, then I have a strong feeling that they are going to create an impact, but also pave the way for Resting B!tch Face to make a memorable entrance into the 2024 music scene.
As for the rest of the EP itself, as there are a total of 6 tracks, the three I haven't mentioned are equally as strong, but to hear those, you will have to wait to hear those you will have to give Sounds Gay, I’m In yourself.
So strap yourself in, keep your eyes peeled and your mind alert because Resting B!tch Face are gearing up to make one hell of an entrance. Are you ready? We certainly are!
