Released on 6th October 023, London alt-rock duo She Made Me Do have shared their latest single Artificial and upon first impressions, I absolutely cannot get enough of it, as there are so many qualities to it which make it one of strongest tracks you could ever add to your playlist.
The best way to help you get a proper grasp of what makes this such a epic song is to deconstruct all the different elements so you can really from a new listener perspective open your mind to all its sheer beauty. The introduction to the song draws us in as we are guided by the beat of Joe Holweger on drums, the slick sound of the bassist Will Crewdson and all topped off nicely by inviting vocals of Shaheena Dax. An explosion and coming together of great minds and talent helping to set the atmosphere.
Lyrically, Artificial has a lot of depth to it and just the right amount to help you feel an almost instant connection as each line plays on your mind, making you not just hear but feel the music too. For example the chorus ‘Sometimes I think my hearts on fire, sometimes i feel it’s burning, who knew you could be so artificial’. When I hear this line it makes me think to myself wow yes its raw, but it also strikes right at the heart because it’s so real and comes from a place where you just have the freedom to say it how it is sometimes, something I stand up and applaud She Made Me Do It for.
Sonically, Artificial has a dark edge to it, but that is part of it’s appeal and natural charisma. Ok it might be ‘upbeat’ in the conventional sense but that does not make it any attractive as a song because the more I listened the more engaged I felt.
Looking at the song as a whole, I would give this latest single top marks, because its made me even more fasciated about wanting to explore even more of the band’s music. While some may class She Made Me Do It as ‘emerging’ with the wealth of experience and passion Shaheena, Will and of course not forgetting Joe, have between the three of them speaks volumes and Artificial is just a prime example of a very powerful testimony of a band who are destined for a great and powerful journey in the UK music scene and beyond.
Want to be part of that revolution? Listen to Artificial today!
