The K’s are infamous for their wild and raucous shows, a force multiplier to the fact that they were playing on a Friday night in Newcastle. All the ingredients were there for the most chaotic show Newcastle’s NX had hosted so far. As they entered the stage and began to sort their equipment beer was already being slung, with bassist Dexter adding fuel to the fire with his ‘Viva la K’s’ signage on his instrument and Newcastle United flag slung on his amp.
Jumping full force into their opening track ‘Picture’ they ooze confidence as they mount the monitors, guitars flung in the air, jeering at the crowds to give it their all. Huge smiles across everyone’s faces as they command the stage with ruthless energy that seeps through us all.
The set was in full swing so I made my way to the balcony to really take in everything they had to offer. They connect with their fans like the whole crowd is made up of their school friends. Mosh pits were a customary part of every song, as well as a few pints cascading across the air.
I am impressed not only by their impressive musicianship but for a band yet to release their debut album they have a repertoire of catchy, well produced songs that bands years ahead of them still don’t have. When they eventually drop the album it could catapult them to stardom much like it did for the Arctic Monkeys way back when.
Their music resonates throughout with everyone able to take home something from the night. They even got one lucky fan up to crowd surf and give him something he’ll remember for the rest of his life. Lead singer Jamie even joined in at the end as he thanked not just the fans but the whole crew for an incredible evening.
You can tell that this means the absolute world to them, they know what they want and will stop at nothing until the get the recognition they rightly deserve.
