“It is a beautiful perpetual transformation, I am the one they call phoenix” the opening lines of what could quite possibly be one of the most astounding albums you will ever experience in 2023 all courtesy of the sensational Élishia Sharie who brought out her debut album The Phoenix Rises on 26th September 2023.
Consisting of 9 tracks, The Phoenix Rises sees LA based Neo-Alt rock artist Élishia Sharie put her heart and soul to create a record which sees her adding her own stamp to the 2023 music scene, and showing us music fans just a glimpse of her many talents and gifts as a musician. The record starts with opening headline track which just lures any listener in, and keeps you engaged with empowering lyrics such as ‘I rise to show you the way, to show you, you are powerful, beyond measure’. It goes beyond just being the first track but also something which adds a positive aura to the album from the outset.
With the scene set we then move nicely onto the second track Liar Liar which has some serious rhythm and such an addictive beat. It didn't take me long to be turning up the volume and shamelessly singing along to the words ‘Liar, Liar, your heart is on fire’ as I imagined being able to see this performed live and getting myself in the zone. Then as an extra bit of added edge the Élishia Sharie way when that guitar solo kicks in around the 2 minute 50 mark my eyes just lit up because I just love how with vocals, rhythm and lyrics combined Élishia is keeping us newbies to her music hooked.
The first few tracks of any album I think are the most vital ones, and based on the first two I have just heard, Élishia Sharie is off to a good strong start. So what about the rest of the album I hear you say? Well as a bit of a heads up this album sees our LA artist push herself by showing her diverse abilities as an artist. For example, ‘Fight’ which also happened to be the first single she released in the lead up to the album, is a song which from a song writing perspective is extremely uplifting and powerful. If you are feeling a bit lost, then this song is the perfect remedy to spark the motivation within you. If that’s not good enough you’re also in for a treat as Élishia spoils us all with a feature from rap vocalist, BRIELLE, which just adds an extra bit of oomph!
Another good track for helping to get a grasp of the album is Other Side which also happens to be one of my favourites from the album, because it is perfect choice for really delving into Élishia’s mind as a song writer, because her ability to bring her lyrics to life where it feels like the words just rise up from the pages is just mesmerising.
If you’re looking for the hidden gem or even the wild card of the album I would suggest tracks such as (ANTI)HERO because it just breathes confidence, takes those raw emotions and transforms into something strong. Another suggestion would also be A Storm Is Coming because it has a touch of jazz inspo and is also just one of the many tracks which sees Élishia Sharie invite some other talented souls to collaborate with her.
In the case of this song guest vocals by Kellindo, lead guitarist for alt R&B artist Janelle Monáe. I just love how the two artists really complement each other while also bringing their own special style to the song. The words ‘Bring the lighting and the rain, about to rock you like a hurricane’ being part of the chorus which you can’t help but put those fists up in the air and chant out loud.
I have only touched on a handful of the songs on this record, but on initial impressions The Phoenix Rises I just love how rich in variety this album is, and it is one where Élishia Sharie has brought her A-Game as we all look up and take notice as Élishia rises up in the spirit of a true phoenix. On a scale of 10, I would have no hesitation of giving this record top marks and giving it my highest-level seal of approval, because as far as I am concerned as debut albums go, The Phoenix Rises is the gift that keeps on giving.
With the record being out for just over a week, I am excited for Élishia Sharie and to see how this album sees her music be elevated to new heights. Available on all major platforms, awaken the energy within you and listen to The Phoenix Rises today.
